Winter has arrived in Austin! Don’t let this unseasonably warm weather today fool you; ladies and gentlemen alike are donning their most fashionable boots, scarves and mittens. The holiday decor is on display everywhere and presents have begun to inch their way beneath the tree.
A magical time of year and in perfect holiday tradition, tonight opens the 51st annual Trail of Lights festival. What started off as a small gathering in 1965 as a gift to the city from the Austin Parks and Recreation department, has grown into one of the cities most beloved and attended events; just behind Austin City Limits and SXSW. A staggering 400,000 people walked through the display last year alone.
Powered by H.E.B., this Trail of Lights will bring back favorites like the North Pole, Santa’s Workshop, The Yule Log, Ferris Wheel and Candy Land. The festival will also introduce some new displays with over 50 exhibits and over 2 million lights!
Fun for all ages, the Trail of Lights opens tonight at 7:00pm and will run through December 22nd. Free entry through December 15th, with a $3.00 admission fee for people 12 years and older from December 16 – 22nd.
