Governor Rick Perry gave a surprise speech today at the Google for Entrepreneurs Conference here in Austin TX. His main topic of discussion: How Texas is a leader in facilitating an environment of innovation. He cited low taxes (no state income tax), predictable regulation, and a reformed legal system (businesses don’t have to fear being over sued) as the three main ingredients for a free and innovative environment. He also alluded to Foreign Direct magazine’s ranking Texas as the #1 state for foreign investment by dollar volume and earning #1 state to do business in for eight years in a row by C.E.O magazine. One of the most interesting segments of his speech was when he speculated that the international success of the South by South West music festival was a leading cause in Formula 1’s decision to choose Austin for the US Grand Prix this November.
